Blizzard Disables WoW: Legion Remix Character Conversion Following Exploit

Blizzard Entertainment has temporarily disabled the ability for players to convert their Timerunner characters from the limited-time World of Warcraft: Legion Remix event into the modern version of the game. This grievous decision was taken soon after a critical exploit allowed characters to transfer to the live server retaining the ungodly Infinite Power scaling unique to the Remix mode. The immediate discontinuation of the character conversion feature shows that developers are racing to plug a mechanical loophole that could threaten the live environment, especially the high-end content.

This problem has come to wider prominence due to a video showing a Timerunner character with full power from Legion Remix entering a high-level modern raid. In the footage, a small group of players used the power scaling to defeat Dimensius, currently one of the hardest bosses in-game, in a matter of minutes. This breach of intended gameplay and challenge clearly showed that the power differential was too great, trivializing some of the hardest encounters designed by Blizzard for their retail game.

The transfer button, which used to be a small hourglass icon next to the Timerunner character on the selection screen, has now been entirely removed. An official response from Blizzard is still pending, but the consensus is that it is a direct reaction to the documented exploitation of the system. It is worth noting that the conversion feature had technical problems from the day the event started: the button existed but was unresponsive for about two weeks. After this history of problems, the feature had only just been turned on again before it was completely taken offline. Players now have no certain date when the feature could go back online.

For players worried about the future of their very hard-earned Timerunner characters, this is not all doom and gloom. In case the conversion remains disabled till the very end of the event, all Legion Remix characters are slated for automatic transfer to modern World of Warcraft servers. What is most important, just like it was with the Mists of Pandaria Remix event, the Infinite Power scaling will be removed during this final transfer. So that any character entering the permanent game environment is properly balanced and provided with level-appropriate starting gear and bags, thus preventing this kind of exploit from being repeated.
