Developer Game Science released a significant new technical patch for its much-publicized Soulslike, Black Myth: Wukong, with pledged veritable performance gains on all platforms. Unfortunately, PS5 owners were among those entangled in an unusually hefty burden for installing the update; it may even require extreme solutions for console users with lesser storage space to overcome this otherwise very worthwhile technical rejuvenation.
The basic problem lies in the update’s really enormous size on the PS5 console: approximately 93.5 GB of free space must be set aside by the player, as the update has to be installed. Considering the base game is already around 130 GB in size, the developer seeks to explain the large delta through specific “differences in file storage methods” on that platform. This implies that most players will have to do away with the entire game and install it from scratch to get to the improved edition, turning what should have been a very simple update into a digital hassle taking up a lot of their time.
While this patch might fall under the storage hurdle, it also offers many long-awaited optimizations under its new version, 1.0.20.21756. PC players can now employ AMD FSR4, now incorporated into the title, to enhance visual quality and frame rates. Also improved are the speed of loading and graphics handling that PS5 users will see, as the newly enhanced profile was set for higher resolution and lower input lag. In all systems, the patch features a number of major improvements to CPU and rendering performance; much better overall memory utilization; and a series of minor bug fixes, including a refinement in the battle encounter with the strong boss, Yaoguai King “Giant Shigandang,” and Czech language support.
The roll-out of this feature, on October 13, 2025, is a gradual happening that came on the heels of the developer’s continued interventions on the title, which already sold over 25 million copies since its release. This technical push would indeed keep the experience smooth of both first-time and repeat players as the studio turns its attention into the development of its next endeavor, Black Myth: Zhong Kui. But there is no jelling doubt that this new update of technical polish comes with significant download size- a strong reminder of how current-generation console hardware is continually demanding more storage.
