Absolum gets quite the amazing trailer to show us that it’s releasing on October 9th, depending on when you are reading this it might probably be out right now. Absolum is a very particular approach to the usual formula of procedural level generation, popular with a ton of PC indie games, what we now have here is a beat em up that tries to adapt to the feels of the player, one that attempts to balance quantity and quality because the developers realized that procedural generation is flawed and often creates soulless and forgettable levels. Many are very interested in what Absolum might offer to them.

Absolum is probably out now

If you don’t have the money to spare for this one because October has truly been a month when it comes to games so far, then you should wishlist it to support such an inventive game. A hand drawn beat em up is quite the thing to behold, and the fantasy world it is set in feels like some sort of blend of Dark Fantasy with some Sword World elements sprinkled on it, you could say its a pretty innovative setting in a way. Their approach to making the game is the most curious yet, as they have deemed full procedural generation as something that does not work, so we may have to see how this goes for them.

Games need to have meaning, as more people indulge into the process of automating level creation more skills are lost in that area. This is why many platformer games aren’t that fun because level making skills have been degrading for years now, and only a few seem to do them well. As for the soundtrack, there’s a huge surprise, Yuka Kitamura is present for this indie title, and we will probably hear some amazing tunes inspired by her works on Elden Ring.
