After months of speculation and mixed reactions, Treyarch Studios has confirmed that new maps from the popular Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be remastered for the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. This news came directly from Treyarch’s Design Director, Matt Scronce, during a recent Twitter Q&A. When a fan asked, “Can we get some BO2 remasters that we haven’t seen yet?” Scronce simply replied, “Uh, yeah, you can.” This straightforward response has reassured many players. The franchise has often faced criticism for reusing a few popular maps while leaving many fan favorites untouched.
This announcement is especially important for longtime fans since Black Ops 7 is a direct sequel to the 2012 classic, taking place a decade later. The return of iconic characters like Raul Menendez and David Mason has been a highlight, though the initial reception of the game reveal was mixed. The news about new remastered maps may help restore some lost goodwill.
While popular maps such as Slums, Standoff, Hijacked, and Raid have been remastered several times in different Black Ops titles, many maps from Black Ops 2 have not returned. This includes favorites like Yemen, Aftermath, Cargo, Overflow, and Plaza. Adding these previously unremastered maps will offer a new experience for franchise veterans.
As the game’s release date on November 14, 2025, approaches, players can look forward to a beta period for testing new features. The early access beta starts on October 2 for pre-orders, with the open beta beginning on October 5. Although the Black Ops 2 remasters are not expected to be part of the beta, players will have the chance to try out the new movement system, weapons, and maps firsthand.
