Stores crash as Silksong drops, people struggle to buy the game because every major storefront, excluding GOG, is crashing badly. People want to get the game and become one of the millions in the hive that can pretty much make a ton of live service titles shy. These are real players after all, while the majority of metrics from live service titles are just bots, real people, real customers just want to play a game that is made with love and care, just like people used to do it way back then. This is comparable to a big Castlevania release, or a big Metroid release, maybe even better.
Stores crash as Silksong cannot be handled
This happened because no one was ready to serve such a big amount of people at the same time. Xbox, Steam and even Nintendo have pretty much taken their services down for a while to ensure that they don’t crash ugly. Ironically, only GOG survived this onslaught because it seems that people don’t really like owning their games, or perhaps they aren’t aware of what is up with that whole can of worms about game preservation and right to own.
Of course, not many are aware of the Stop Killing Games campaign, or perhaps they are starting to forget so I will use this place as a neat reminder to support it. Now it is time to actually talk more about Silksong’s crushing success, because it really shows that a new era of progress in the medium is upon us. I want quality titles to start filling the medium right like the 90s era was, and I’m very sure that if things got right, we will be able to see light at the end of the tunnel. Team Cherry is truly an amazing group of talented individuals, and I’m grateful for Hollow Knight Silksong being released.
