Shuten Order has dropped on PC via Steam alongside the other platforms. Many gamers are starting to notice some sever issues with how the game handles and how it is translated. Being an Ace Attorney like, a game like this really needs to have one of the best translation works ever, unfortunately this wasn’t the case. The script is riddled with inconsistencies, that can be damning when playing it and it truly shows when the people who were in charge of translating it are unable to keep track of usage of “You” or “I” making things more confusing to read.
Shuten Order gets slaughtered
Whoever was in charge of the localization effort needs to redo this again and apply proper quality check. I really don’t know what happened but this is inexcusable, it feels as if they just dropped some prototype of the translation, and even still it would be quite the terrible prototype. It wouldn’t be weird if all of these issues are due to the localization team just using “AI” to translate everything, as the hallmarks of it seem to be everywhere. Shuten Order in Japanese is a game I’m really willing to try, but unfortunately I just know the basics of the language, which pretty much impedes me from playing this text heavy game.
Nobody wants “AI” in any part of the process, even the prototyping of something shouldn’t be done with it. It is not a tool when the result is always terrible, and good enough does not cut it anymore, people are getting tired of being fed slop. Thanks to translations like this, many people are starting to learn the language, perhaps some are doing it for the same reasons as I do, to make sure that someday we can enjoy Shuten Order as it was meant to be played.
