Parasite Mutant seems to be a love letter for fans of classic games such as Parasite Eve, its even in the name, this new PC game tries to replicate the experience of 90s Squaresoft greatness and give it a new spin. There’s still no planned release date for the game, it just popped into the Steam store and it seems to still be in development. The team is also small, comprised by people who seem to hail from either China or Japan, but there’s really no information about what’s going on with them, they just started developing games some years ago, starting in 2019. Parasite Mutant is clearly Parasite Eve
Indie developers often try to copy their favorite games when it comes to inspiration, this one does feel very obvious however, as it is clearly just Parasite Eve with a new name and perhaps a new plot. Frontier Hunter was their previous game, and it seems that people didn’t like the plot of that one, hopefully this experience is polished enough to be properly called a professional project as the previous games feel relatively amateur in design qualities. We have to cut some slack to the developers since this is their second game.
Parasite Mutant still has no release date, anywhere to be seen, not even on the official site of the crew that seems unusually empty and incomplete. They seem to be active on twitter, however they also seem to be quite silent there if you disregard the current announcement of Parasite Mutant, maybe they are busy at work. I’ve never seen an indie developer who wasn’t constantly communicating, but this gives me hope that they are actually focusing on doing a good project rather than some rushed up slop fest that people might not want to play.
