Blizzard Entertainment has officially announced the eagerly awaited crossover between Overwatch 2 and the beloved JRPG series, Persona 5. Scheduled to launch with the mid-Season 18 update on September 16, the event will introduce five new Legendary skins inspired by the Phantom Thieves. It will also feature an in-game event hub and various thematic easter eggs. This collaboration is one of the most significant cosmetic partnerships in Overwatch 2’s history, bringing the stylish look of Persona 5 to the hero shooter.
The main attraction of the collaboration is a set of skins that turn Overwatch 2 heroes into their Persona 5 versions. Mercy gets the “Panther” skin, based on Ann Takamaki. D.Va transforms into “Queen,” representing Makoto Niijima, with her mech redesigned to look like Queen’s persona, Johanna. The newly added hero, Wuyang, wears the “Joker” skin, making it the fastest collaboration skin released for a new hero. The collection also includes “Skull” Genji, inspired by Ryuji Sakamoto, and “Fox” Lifeweaver, referencing Yusuke Kitagawa.
In addition to the skins, the event will fully integrate Persona 5’s iconic style. The in-game event hub will feature the series’ distinctive UI, and players will discover hidden references and easter eggs across various maps. Each skin is carefully detailed with nods to the characters’ respective Personas and a subtle paint splash effect that follows the heroes as they move, reflecting the artistic style of Persona 5. The event’s key art was created by Shigenori Soejima, the famous character artist behind the Persona series.
The event runs until September 30 and aligns with other Season 18 updates, including hero balance changes and the introduction of Tracer in Overwatch 2 Stadium. With a limited-time offering and a rich collection of new content, this crossover aims to attract both long-time fans of Overwatch 2 and newcomers from the Persona community, providing a unique chance to see the two worlds coming together.
