In a recent hotfix for Overwatch 2, developers made targeted changes to the Stadium game mode, significantly altering the meta for Season 18. This update went live on September 4 and includes a mix of buffs and nerfs for several key heroes, aiming to create a more balanced and strategic environment. The changes, especially those affecting Orisa and Brigitte, are set to impact team compositions and individual hero performance in competitive play.
The hotfix improved the survivability of Orisa, an important tank hero. Her ‘Refraction Tiles’ now provide a notable 75% damage reduction from beam attacks, countering heroes that rely heavily on beams. This change aims to strengthen Orisa’s role as a powerful frontline presence and enhance her effectiveness against certain team setups. In contrast, other heroes have had their abilities toned down. D.Va’s ‘Facetanking’ healing and ‘Multitask-Mod’ weapon power have been reduced, addressing her ability to dominate matches too quickly through early-game strength. Similarly, Junker Queen’s ‘Royal Bullets’ now deal less damage, making it harder for her to win duels with little setup.
Damage heroes also underwent changes. Pharah received a set of nerfs to her lifesteal and rocket count, designed to limit the effectiveness of her high-burst damage builds. Brigitte, a support hero, saw a mix of adjustments. While her ‘Righteous Cleave’ healing range has doubled, benefiting her Weapon Power build, her ‘Scavenged Steel’ item no longer grants Ultimate Charge during her ultimate. This is a specific nerf aimed at preventing her from chaining her strong ‘Rally’ ultimates.
In addition to hero balance, the update introduced a new system to lessen the impact of losses in Competitive Stadium. The ‘Loser Consolation’ feature now reduces the number of Stadium Points lost for teams that manage to win individual rounds, rewarding performance even in defeat. However, this change does not apply to the All-Star and Legend leagues. Along with these significant changes, the patch also addressed several bug fixes, including issues with Brigitte’s abilities and Junkrat’s Concussion Mine. As players engage with the updated Stadium mode, these adjustments will surely affect the strategies and hero choices that shape the rest of Season 18.
