NetEase Games has confirmed that Marvel Rivals will be released on September 12 for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. This brings the popular team-based shooter to older consoles. The announcement includes detailed performance specifications, clarifying how the game will operate on these older, yet still popular, systems. While Marvel Rivals has been available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC since late 2024, this version will reach a wider audience.
On the standard PlayStation 4 model, players can expect the game to run at 1080p resolution with a steady 30 frames per second. This resolution is typical for many cross-generation games. It ensures a consistent experience, even if it doesn’t match the smoothness of current-generation consoles. The game will require 40 GB of storage space for both versions. NetEase’s technical team has focused on stability for the base model, which is a smart choice given the console’s hardware limits and large user base.
The most impressive performance figures come from the PlayStation 4 Pro. On this upgraded console, Marvel Rivals will run at a clear 1440p resolution and a smooth 60 frames per second. This is noteworthy because it aligns with the standard performance mode on PlayStation 5. Achieving 60 fps on an older console shows the developers’ optimization efforts and offers a strong reason for PS4 Pro owners to play.
The release on September 12 is timed to coincide with the start of the game’s fourth season. Season 4 will introduce a new hero, Angela, and will also include a battle pass, new arcade modes, and a special event. Additionally, the season’s content roadmap features a new map, K’un-Lun – Heart of Heaven, set to launch in October, as well as new costumes and accessories. The simultaneous release of the PS4 port and the new content ensures that both new and returning players will have plenty to explore.
