In a recent interview with MinnMax, Sucker Punch creative director Nate Fox was asked if the upcoming Ghost of Yotei’s protagonist Atsu is in any way related to Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima, to which he replied “No.” And when asked if Atsu has even heard of Jin Sakai or is aware of his actions, Fox’s reply was the same which means Ghost of Yotei’s events may be largely self-contained. Also, not being related to Jin Sakai actually gives Ghost of Yotei’s Atsu a much more grounded arc as well as providing room for more open ended character development.
In the same interview, the developer was asked if the delay for Rockstar’s GTA 6 was received positively in the studio, to which Fox replied “We’re all still hungover. Multi month hangover, that was a great day.” The favorable reaction was largely due to the fact that the delay of GTA 6 caused Ghost of Yotei, as well as many other titles to maintain their release schedule which would have been completely impossible otherwise.
Ghost of Yotei is also set to receive a free DLC titled Legends sometimes in 2026 which will feature two-player story missions and more additional contents.
After the critical and commercial success of it’s predecessor Ghost of Tshushima, the anticipation is already high for Ghost of Yotei which aims to inherit everything that was great in Tsushima and take it all to new heights of awesomeness. And combining photorealistic visuals with jaw-dropping art direction, Ghost of Yotei is destined to look particularly gorgeous in the PS5 and more so in the PS5 Pro, bringing ancient Japan to life in breathtaking ways.
And recently, the devs have also announced the size for the upcoming game which is 85.119 GB and you’ll be able to pre-load the title a week prior to its launch on September 25.
The PS5 exclusive is slated to arrive on October 2, 2025.
