Although Borderlands 4 has secured a huge number of concurrent player counts after arriving, the game is currently at a ‘mixed’ review rating on Steam cause of numerous performance issues and technical problems. The general complaints from players are centered around Borderlands 4’s unexpectedly low performance even on high-end PCs with reports of crashes that are stopping the game from even starting up.
And as a response to Borderlands 4’s current performance woes, developer Gearbox has posted an NVIDIA Optimization Guide on the game’s Steam page, asking players to fine tune their graphics settings for getting better performance and framerates on PC. The developer has also pointed out the targeted visual settings and performance for the following PC specs for Borderlands 4:
Minimum PC specs – 1080p @ 30FPS with Low Preset settings
Recommended PC specs – 1440p @ 60FPS with Medium Preset settings
Gearbox has also issued the following advice to all PC gamers who are experiencing performance problems with the game:
“Please note that any time you change any of your graphics settings, your shaders will need to recompile. Please keep playing for at least 15 minutes to see how your PC’s performance has changed.”
Gearbox then proceeded to show a detailed chart for “Optimal Settings” provided by NVIDIA showing suggestions for which graphics settings may work best for your combination of Graphics card and targeted display resolution. The devs also recommended downloading the latest NVIDIA game-ready driver for optimal performance and if all of that doesn’t result in improved FPS, they wrote: “please contact 2K Support for direct assistance.”
This is pretty much the standard fare of PC optimization 101 which every gamer already knows and in case of Borderlands 4, it’s unlikely to make any kind of difference at all considering there are reports of the game struggling to hit 60 FPS on Low Settings even on an RX 6900 XT which is unacceptable. Looks like the trend of games releasing with awful optimization continues with Borderlands 4 and the devs need to seriously gear up to deliver multiple patches and fix the performance issues as soon as possible.
