As excitement grows for the next-generation Nintendo console, an important detail has surfaced about one of its key launch titles. Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which has seen several releases since its 2020 debut, is confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2’s early 2026 lineup, along with its versions for the Xbox Series X/S. However, this port comes with a significant drawback that might strain the console’s storage limits and affect player expectations.
The Switch 2 version will reportedly be available on a Game-Key card but will need a large download of around 90GB. This size is concerning because it would take up about a third of the new console’s estimated internal storage. Fans are already divided over this news, especially since the game is expected to run at a locked 30 frames per second (FPS).
This situation is disappointing given the Switch 2’s rumored capabilities. The console is said to be powerful enough to run graphically intense games like Cyberpunk 2077 at a stable 40 FPS. This raises questions about how well this specific port has been optimized. It is uncertain if a patch will be released after launch to fix the frame rate issues, leaving many to question if this is the best performance we can expect.
Aside from the technical challenges, the port will feature a new “Streamlined Progression” option aimed at players who want to enjoy the story without facing combat challenges. This mode allows the player character to be invincible and inflict maximum damage, which may appeal to those focused on the narrative. While this addition may satisfy some players, the serious performance and storage issues continue to be major concerns for the gaming community as the release date approaches.
