Bungie has announced the next major expansion for its long-running looter-shooter, Destiny 2. Titled ‘Renegades,’ the expansion is set to launch on December 2. It represents a significant collaboration with LucasFilm Games and promises a story influenced by the Star Wars universe. Unlike a standalone story, ‘Renegades’ will directly continue from the Edge of Fate expansion. Players will dive into a new storyline centered on rescuing the rogue Guardian, The Drifter, from a growing criminal underworld.
The expansion’s new content introduces the Lawless Frontier, a new playable area inspired by iconic Star Wars locations like Hoth and Tatooine. This new zone will serve as the setting for various activities, including replayable ‘jobs’ from new Syndicate factions. Players will also access a new social hub, the Tharsis Outpost on Mars. This location is known for being a gathering point for criminal leaders and will allow players to build their reputation within this new secret society.
The collaboration with LucasFilm Games is clear in the expansion’s new weapons and abilities. A new weapon type, the Blaster, will be introduced, inspired by classic Star Wars guns like Han Solo’s DL-44. These weapons will have real blaster sound effects thanks to the partnership. Additionally, Guardians will unlock new “renegade abilities” that offer unique combat advantages, such as calling in Cabal Walkers and air strikes.
This expansion seems ready to bring a fresh story and look to the Destiny 2 universe. It appeals to both veteran players and fans of sci-fi. The focus on a criminal underworld, new factions, and Star Wars-inspired elements indicates a notable shift from past expansions. It offers players a new experience that builds on the game’s evolving story while adding an exciting new layer of content.
