It seems Borderlands 4 has released with a cavalcade of bugs not just for the PC platform but for the consoles as well, as reported by many players who have experienced drops in frame rates and stuttering gameplay in all consoles, and even more so in the PS5 Pro which is easily the most powerful console available out there that significantly outclasses both the base PS5 and the Xbox Series X.
And while players are speculating that a memory leak is probably the cause of Borderlands 4’s strange performance decrease on the PS5 Pro, restarting the game has proved to help in many cases. In fact, some players on the consoles are also recommending restarting the game every few hours to avoid the sudden drops in FPS, though it’s obviously far from a proper solution.
Thankfully, developer Gearbox has confirmed to have been looking into the issue with CEO Randy Pitchford recommending quitting and restarting Borderlands 4 until the devs come up with a patch that offers a permanent fix.
“Known issue of perf dropping on PS5 pro after several hours of continuous play,” Pitchford stated on X/ Twitter. “Workaround until we patch: Quit game and restart. Sorry for the friction!”
It seems that Borderlands 4 could end up being remembered as one of the most badly optimized titles to have released in the current console generation with crippling bugs and other technical issues that severely detract from the overall experience. And while most games made in the Unreal Engine 5 are now kind of expected to come with stuttering problems, Borderlands 4 has clearly took things on another level with game breaking bugs like this that reminds of the time when Skyrim was released on the Playstation 3 back in 2011, as there was a bug that resulted in massive FPS drops the longer the game was played and after a certain amount of time, it became completely unplayable.
Borderlands 4 came out for both PC and Consoles on September 12 and despite seeing massive player counts with over 300,000 concurrent players on Steam, the game is currently at a ‘mixed’ review rating on Valve’s platform due to the looter shooter’s numerous performance problems.
