Treyarch Studios has introduced important improvements to the weapon camo progression system in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. The new system will make it easier for players to earn cosmetic unlocks. These changes come after player feedback and aim to create a more consistent and rewarding experience.
A key element of the new system is the reduced number of headshots needed to unlock military camos. Previously, players needed 100 headshots per weapon, but now they will only need 80 to complete all nine camos. The progression is also more consistent. The first camo unlocks after just five headshots, and subsequent camos become available every ten headshots after that. This approach gives players a clearer and less repetitive path to earning cosmetics.
Additionally, the developers have added weapon-specific challenges that match the primary uses of certain weapon classes. For example, shotguns will now require Point Blank Kills, and sniper rifles will require One Shot Kills to unlock their military camos. This change respects the different playstyles tied to each weapon type and encourages players to use them effectively. Moreover, the special camos available for each weapon have increased from two to three, giving players more customization choices.
For the first time in the franchise, players can earn and unlock weapon camos across multiple modes, not just multiplayer and Zombies. Black Ops 7 will let players earn weapon camos in the Co-Op Campaign, Multiplayer, Zombies, and Call of Duty: Warzone starting with Season 1. This integration makes the camo grind more flexible and approachable, allowing players to incorporate it more naturally into their overall gameplay. This move reflects a broader design philosophy that values player time and offers more freedom in progression.
