One of the most acclaimed games of recent times, 2023’s Baldur’s Gate 3 has just turned 2 and to reflect on the incredible success of the RPG title, Larian boss Swen Vincke has opened up on how the game has essentially paved the way for the studio to work on their next venture. But he also told the fans to be patient as the devs would “need a bit of time to make it all work.”
“Crazy to think it’s only been two years,” he stated on Twitter/X: “It’s truly been life changing. Probably worth writing about one day. But I can spoil the biggest takeaway. BG3 was what allowed us to do our next crazy thing. How that will pan out is anyone’s guess but I can assure you we’re working hard to ensure you’ll have plenty of fun. Like really — loads of it. In a surprising way. And I can’t wait to show you. But you’ll need to be patient / we’ll need a bit of time to make it all work. It’ll be worth it though.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 had received it’s last major update back in April with the massive Patch 8 which added 12 new subclasses into the game besides a whole new photo mode. The patch led to a spike in the player base with all the new additions along with a thriving mod support which has hit a staggering 265 million downloads where over 250,000 are Withers Big Naturals as confirmed by the devs themselves. The exponentially high number of mods will go a long way to ensure that the game will never run out of fresh contents or newer ways to experience for all players.
And by their own statements, Larian is certainly aware of what the enormous success of Baldur’s Gate 3 means for the studio in terms of all future titles they release: “We’ve got big shoes to fill.” The devs have also posted several infographics on Baldur’s Gate 3’s Steam page, pointing out some of the interesting facts and figures regarding player choices in the game.
