Fallout 76 Tackles Long-Standing Caravan Bug With a Practical Solution

Bethesda recently announced a surprising but practical fix for a long-standing problem affecting Fallout 76 players. For nearly a year, since Season 18 started, players have struggled with the frustrating Milepost Zero caravan escort missions. The Brahmin caravans often got stuck because of ongoing pathfinding and collision bugs. Instead of directly fixing these technical problems, Bethesda has found a clever workaround to lessen player frustration.

Rather than revamp the caravan’s AI, which would require a lot of resources, Bethesda plans to significantly shorten the mission timer. The original 30-minute limit for these events will be cut down to just 7 minutes in an upcoming patch. While this may seem like a drastic change, it has a clear goal: when a caravan gets stuck, players will now only waste a small amount of time before the mission ends. Some have labeled this a “band-aid” solution, which is currently being tested on the Public Test Server. Early reports suggest that it does not hurt the success rate of missions that run smoothly.

The changes also address a major issue with the reward system. Previously, the player who started the caravan got a much larger share of the rewards, discouraging others from joining in. The new update will fix this by ensuring that all players who successfully complete the mission earn the same number of Supplies.

These updates are set to be part of the next big update for Fallout 76, which will kick off Season 22, titled “Appalachian Modern Living.” This update is expected to come out in September 2025. While the main bug still exists, Bethesda’s practical approach shows a commitment to improving the player experience. The focus on minimizing wasted time and balancing rewards reflects careful attention to player feedback and a goal to make these events a more positive and cooperative experience for the entire community.
