After getting feedback from the community about the difficulty of earning new rewards, Electronic Arts and DICE have announced a big change to the progression system in Battlefield 2042. The developers will now increase the number of Double and Triple XP weekends, giving players more chances to earn content before the next major installment, which many are calling Battlefield 6. This decision comes directly from player complaints that the latest battle pass, introduced in the 9.2.0 update, felt overly “grindy,” making it hard to unlock all its rewards.
The new schedule marks a significant change from earlier plans, as DICE adds six more XP events to the short-term roadmap. The upcoming weekends will feature Double XP, and the last two weekends before Battlefield 6’s release on October 10 will offer a Triple XP bonus. This faster timeline is meant to help players obtain the new battle pass rewards, which are organized into six distinct packages, each inspired by different eras of the Battlefield franchise.
These themed rewards connect to specific tiers of the battle pass. Packages unlock at tiers 8, 19, 30, 40, 49, and 60. The rewards include player card backgrounds, icons, and skins for soldiers and vehicles, offering a solid collection of cosmetic items. A key detail for players is that all rewards earned in Battlefield 2042 will transfer to Battlefield 6 when it launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. This guarantees that the effort players put into the current game will carry over to the new title.
The choice to change the progression path shows that the developers want to respond to player concerns and improve the overall gaming experience. By making it easier to get new content, EA and DICE are building goodwill in the community while also creating excitement for the upcoming release. The faster XP gains act as a strategic link between the two titles, rewarding dedicated players and encouraging ongoing engagement with Battlefield 2042 as the franchise moves forward.
