Nintendo has recently rolled out a system update to its hugely successful Nintendo Switch 2 console, Version 20.2.0. Released originally in July 2025, the update is mainly aimed at improving overall system stability and solving a significant number of significant issues, indicating Nintendo’s commitment to providing an upgraded user experience after setting a record with the release of the console.
The update fixes two particular issues that have impacted early adopters particularly. Among the various repairs is a major one that fixed a problem whereby Parental Control settings would sometimes not transfer properly from the source Nintendo Switch to the new system when carrying out a system transfer. This repair helps ensure family-friendly settings are not lost and gives parents peace of mind. Also, the patch fixes a frustrating problem in which some users were not able to pass the “Searching for networks” page in the Internet Settings menu, a critical fix for maintaining reliable online connectivity.
The July update comes after the first June update, which also sought to fine-tune the performance and UI of the Switch 2. The regular issuance of these stability-focused patches reflects Nintendo’s forward-looking strategy of improving the console’s performance. Nintendo Switch 2 has experienced an incredible launch, with more than 3.5 million consoles sold worldwide in its first four days and establishing itself as Nintendo’s fastest-selling console to date. Its speedy adoption was perhaps to be expected, its predecessor, the original Switch, sitting as the third best-selling video game console in history.
While the current update introduces well-needed improvements, features such as custom themes for the Switch 2 remain out of reach, with any progress in those directions looking on a distant horizon. Meanwhile, the broader Nintendo ecosystem continues; the company recently implemented stricter eShop policies to enhance content quality. There are several titles in the pipeline next year, such as Donkey Kong Bananza on release on July 17, and other first-party titles like Kirby Air Riders and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond in 2025. The highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong is coming, building up the console’s growing list. Leaks also hint towards an eventual Nintendo Direct presentation sometime this month, with numerous developers waiting until the event to announce new game announcements.
