Shiny Shoe, the renowned dev house behind hit deckbuilding roguelike Monster Train, has finally dropped the long-awaited content roadmap for Monster Train 2 on X/Twitter. Following its critically acclaimed launch on May 21 on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S, and as a direct result of the game amassing over 500,000 players, the dev team is now planning to drop a series of significant updates with the goal of expanding the size of the experience to its growing player base.
The roadmap identifies the three-step post-launch cycle starting with the “Lost Arsenal” update scheduled in Q3 2025. The first free update guarantees to introduce fresh strategic depth to the game through new cards for all playable clans, as well as exclusive clanless equipment and room cards. There will be rebalanced legacy cards as well, all lovingly handcrafted to bring gameplay variety and creativity in deck building.
Later this year, Q4 2025 will see a second, still-untitled update. Whilst details are being kept under wraps, the update will add new Void-based enemies, tougher boss battles, and new gameplay mutators to keep players guessing. New strategic items and cosmetic additions will also be added, once more to the game’s growingly colorful ecosystem.
The biggest announcement on the horizon is a massive Q1 2026 expansion. This gigantic expansion will combine free content with a premium paid feature, including a new game mode and addition of an entirely new clan, among other major improvements. Every roadmap release will also feature ongoing bug fixes, balance adjustments, and localization tuning, a sign that Shiny Shoe is serious about taking on player feedback.
With Monster Train 2 presently boasting a close to 96% positive Steam review average and an active user base many times greater than the all-time high of its predecessor, this ambitious pipeline of content is a harbinger of strong future for the title as it continues to lead in the deckbuilding roguelike genre. Ongoing support and intended additions are a harbinger of commitment to the advancement of the game, with the promise of sustained play for newcomers and veteran gamers alike.
