Insomniac Games, the developers who created some of the most well received third person action adventure AAA heavyweights such as Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, is reportedly working on three new games with one of them being the previously announced Marvel’s Wolverine. The news is according to Spanish PlayStation fan account @NotiPlay_ on X/Twitter (via Reddit user KekanKok), who has spotted the detail via a LinkedIn post from an unnamed Insomniac developer.
However, apart from Wolverine, the two other games are currently unannounced which has given rise to lots of fan speculations and theories regarding their identities. And some of the guesses include Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 or a new Ratchet & Clank entry while many others are of the opinion that Insomniac Games could be working on a new solo Venom game instead.
And while there’s still no official update regarding Insomniac’s upcoming Wolverine game, there are some valid reasons why the game could be taking more time than previously expected cause unlike Spider-Man who has had plenty of games before Insomniac’s Spider-Man came out in 2018, thereby it’s main gameplay mold already sort of established by a lot of the previous titles that came before whereas Wolverine has very few titles made so far. This means Insomniac as a developer needs to break a lot more grounds and create entirely new, never-before-seen gameplay mechanics in order to make the Wolverine game stand out on it’s own, much like the character itself.
Also, as Wolverine as a character is far more lethal than Spider-Man, a game based on him could easily become a bit one-sided so a lot of work is probably required to make the game accessible for all audiences like Insomniac’s Spider-Man games which the developers are most likely aiming for.
And all of that means the game could require significantly more amount of work than previously expected and hence the absence of any new official information so far.
Marvel’s Wolverine was announced back in 2021, however no release date has been given so far.
