As excitement grows for the upcoming launch of Borderlands 4, Gearbox Software has shared details about Rafa, the newest member of the game’s diverse lineup of Vault Hunters. This Exo-Soldier introduces a melee-focused combat style that sets a unique tone for the upcoming sequel’s gameplay.
Rafa’s main combat revolves around his powerful Arc Knives. Using this Action Skill shifts the view to third-person, allowing players to make quick, precise slashes that dismantle enemies. In addition to the Arc Knives, Rafa’s gear includes “Peacebreaker Cannons,” which are rapid-fire turrets that deliver ongoing support fire. Like the Arc Knives, these cannons allow for significant customization. Players can tweak the Arc Knives to change dash attacks and add different damage types, including corrosive effects. Similarly, the Peacebreaker Cannons can be exchanged for various weapons, ranging from shotguns to lasers, hinting at a wide range of options for customizing this character. Developers have also hinted at a grenade-focused build for Rafa, enabling players to dual-wield explosives in battle, showcasing the variety of potential playstyles.
Rafa joins a new group of Vault Hunters that includes Vex the Dark Siren, Harlowe the Gravatar, and Amon the Forge Knight. With Vex’s abilities already revealed, the gaming community is eager for more information on Harlowe and Amon. Borderlands 4 will expand its universe with new planets and weapon manufacturers while also bringing back popular characters like Claptrap and Mad Moxxi. Developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K, the game uses Unreal Engine 5 to enhance its experience. It will feature online co-op and multiplayer, with full cross-platform compatibility across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. The game is scheduled for release on September 12, 2025, promising a new chapter in the classic looter-shooter franchise.
