To everyone’s surprise, Activision’s highly anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has unveiled a collaboration with the original 1997 slasher movie, I Know What You Did Last Summer. The unveiling is a shift from some of the more out-there collaborations found in recent Call of Duty titles. It’s more befitting of a collaboration that’s organic with Black Ops 6’s realistic 1990s backdrop.
The tease was in the guise of an internet trailer from game developer Treyarch, where the film’s iconic slasher boogeyman was introduced into the world of the game. As foreboding as the character appeared while acting out in the trailer, very little information regarding the alliance, such as new play modes, operator skins, or exclusive events in the game, has been announced. A targeted release date for said content hasn’t arrived at this time. Industry rumor has it, however, that it might be a highlighted feature of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Season 5 coming up.
It is not the first instance that the Call of Duty franchise went into the horror genre. Art the Clown from the Terrifier franchise was featured in last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Nevertheless, the I Know What You Did Last Summer crossover feels especially fitting, as Black Ops 6 has been so careful to stay true to its 1990s setting. The movie, a horror staple of late 20th-century film culture, has a very clear look and cultural vibe to the game’s era, creating a smooth and transportive experience. This alliance will establish a co-operative environment that enhances the game while making it a appealingly appealing game to a large number of players who want extreme action and retro horror.
