The gaming universe is rife with increasing rumor of a potential remake in the future for Ubisoft’s popular Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Recent activity on the game’s Steam store page, as spotted by a Reddit User, has given a new injection of reason for hope, hinting that a modern remake of the pirate adventure might be nearer than ever previously imagined. This comes following a period of relentless rumors and subtle suggestions that have left fans salivating at the thought of going back to the Caribbean.
Crafty-eyed gamers have noted some new additions made to Black Flag’s Steam page, features notably lacking from the initial 2013 release. These include improved sound controls, including customizable volume sliders, stereo, and surround sound support, as well as a mouse-only control scheme. The page also notes customizable difficulty levels and, most importantly, a “save anytime” feature, a huge quality-of-life upgrade that would surely be greeted with open arms by seasoned players. These technical developments strongly suggest a further overhaul, much beyond the mere re-release.
The new reports are based on the foundation of earlier rumors and circumstantial confirmations. 2023 news had already suggested that a Black Flag remake was greenlit by Ubisoft. Spilling fuel to the fire, Black Flag protagonist voice actor Edward Kenway’s voice actor Matt Ryan jokingly teased fans into calling for them to dominate AC4 again. Ubisoft itself fanned the flames in June by revamping the game’s current Steam trailers, a move in retrospect part of a grand preliminaries gesture leading to a major announcement.
As the growing body of evidence points towards the announcement of a remake on the horizon, there have been worries raised that the remake might replace the original title on online marketplaces, something hitherto greeted with occasional user outrage. And as for word from on high, industry insiders are tipping Gamescom 2025 or The Game Awards 2025 as the favourites, although latest news from the Assassin’s Creed: Shadows delay might just see the remake slide into 2026. As always, however, despite these teasers being promising ones, the world of gaming waits for Ubisoft’s confirmation before getting all worked up.
