CD Projekt RED, the developers behind the massively successful The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has confirmed that their upcoming epic fantasy RPG The Witcher 4 is currently being made with the same “scrappy” vibes the team had more than a decade ago when they were developing Witcher 3. What it basically means is that The Witcher 4 is going to be made with the same spirit that was present in it’s predecessor, which is great as that’s the sort of mindset that makes the developers push boundaries and break new grounds.
In a recent interview with GamesRadar, The Witcher 4’s Narrative Director Philipp Weber said there was a fair amount of “good creative chaos” in the studio when they were developing The Witcher 3 which means the devs were working in more of a “vibe-based” or spontaneous manner for the game. Of course as Witcher 3 turned out to be phenomenally successful in both critical and commercial terms, CD Projekt RED’s working philosophy has more than proved to be effective.
“Sometimes I like to just say, ‘Get it done. Do it dirty. Do it the way we used to do it!” Weber stated.
“The way we want to do justice to [The Witcher 3’s] legacy is to take the philosophy we had during The Witcher 3 – how to make a game, how to really care about these things, how to tell stories – and keep that,” explained Weber.
“there are [also] new questions we want to answer, because this is supposed to feel like a true sequel, not just redoing what we did before. And I think it’s really [about] trying to have that healthy mix of moving forward and also trying out some new things.”
The Witcher 4 currently doesn’t have a release date and is not expected before 2027 at least, but CD Projekt have recently showcased a tech demo featuring several graphical and gameplay-related features that’s going to make their ways to the final game. And even if you’re not a fan of the series, you should still watch it cause it shows The Witcher 4 is all set to push the boundaries of videogames as we know it, in more ways than one.
