The MindsEye Situation is crazy, I just had to say it cause its actually true. Not only PC gamers are having issues, but even those on console struggle to run the game properly. Sony is issuing massive refunds for anyone that purchased this seemingly indie title, making the disaster even worse for the studio behind, who might end up in debt. It is truly saddening to see a game flop so hard, but the reality is that whatever gets built in Unreal Engine 5 is pretty much set for being quite unoptimized. Clair Obscur is an exception to the rule however, and it truly looks both stunning and runs well.
MindsEye Situation gets critical
We might see the Studio of Build a Rocket Boy blast into the skies if this keeps going on. We don’t even know how they are gonna recoup the losses coming from this project. It does however show us that pretty much small studios have access to the tech to make games that look more impressive than whatever the triple A industry has pulled in the past years.
The more things advance, the easier it gets to make a game, however, this is also a problem since it causes a ton of low quality releases to filter in, including the threatening “AI” slop that dares to destroy the medium. The MindsEye situation shows us an Atari era levels of industry imbalance, and if things keep going this way, we can kiss goodbye to videogames as we know it.
Sony also decided to double down on the Concord flop by saying that Live Service games remain profitable despite many indicators showing that’s not the case. MindsEye might have been an “indie” flop, but this might be the chain reaction that unchains a world of pain for gamers and producers alike. Are you ready to brave these interesting coming years?
