One of the most celebrated action titles of 2024, Black Myth: Wukong which is based on the classical Chinese novel Journey to the West, is finally set to make it’s way on the Xbox consoles on August 20, 2025. The release window of the game on the Xbox platform marks a full year of Black Myth: Wukong’s original release on both PS5 and PC. So if you’re on the Xbox platform and have been waiting for the game to release on your console, you don’t have to wait much longer.
The news was made official on Xbox’s Twitter/X account, with a message stating: “You are the Destined One. Black Myth: Wukong is coming August 20. Pre-order begins June 18!”
Previously, Fen Ji, the boss of Game Science, who are the developer of Black Myth: Wukong, had blamed the limited capabilities of the Xbox Series S for the game’s lack of availability on Microsoft’s platform which makes sense as Black Myth: Wukong is definitely one of the most visually demanding titles when it had first came out, even on the PC. So getting the game to run at comparable quality levels to that of the more powerful Series X and the PS5 was always a significant challenge for the developers, but as Black Myth: Wukong is finally confirmed to arrive on the Xbox systems in August, it seems they’ve actually managed to resolve the tech limitations.
Also, Microsoft’s Xbox release policy dictates that a game must be released across both Xbox Series X and S and not just for the more powerful console which definitely creates a hurdle for the devs due to the Series S’ lesser technical capabilities.
One of the biggest commercial hits of 2024, Black Myth: Wukong has sold a staggering 25 million copies since it came out. And while the game is lauded for it’s dynamic and fast-paced combat system, it was also criticized for a myriad of technical issues.
