Xbox Games Set to Broaden Horizons with Nintendo Switch 2 Compatibility

In a massive milestone on the horizon that will alter the landscape of cross-platform gaming, it has been indicated that Microsoft is aggressively seeking to have its first-party Xbox games featured on the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. The strategic move, as reported by Tom Warren from The Verge, indicates Microsoft’s continued commitment to the multi-platform strategy, seeking to broaden even further the horizons of its highly praised catalog of games beyond its own proprietary hardware and PC ecosystem.

This is a continuation of a trend throughout 2024 whereby Microsoft has started releasing its own flagship games to a wider audience. A good example is the highly successful Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush, which were both successfully launched on PlayStation 5 and the original Nintendo Switch to respond to the conventional exclusivity of these games on Xbox and Windows platforms. The introduction of this plan into 2025 has already witnessed titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle hit PlayStation 5 in April, in addition to the same-day launch of Doom: The Dark Ages and The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with day-one Xbox Game Pass inclusion.

Though actual titles planned for Nintendo Switch 2 are embargoed, this decision is sure to be a huge advantage for both sides’ gamers. The Nintendo Switch 2 released on June 5 is sure to deliver improved performance, not just for the latest games, but also for native Switch games such as Pokemon Scarlet and Violet via free updates utilizing the console’s newer technology.

This cross-platform push on the part of Microsoft, as reported by publications like The Verge’s Tom Warren, is more progress in the console wars towards gamer accessibility and self-sufficiency. Along with the Switch 2, the rumored tie-up with ASUS on a version of the ROG Ally 2 titled “Project Kennan” with Xbox-exclusive features further expresses the sweeping vision of Microsoft. As the gaming community holds its breath for the next releases, with Nintendo now officially rolled out at Gamescom, the promise of other Xbox titles on a Nintendo console is still a thrilling new dawn for the gaming community.
