Rollerdrome is back on Steam, however, this shouldn’t make you happy. The team behind this PC game were kicked away by 2K, especially after winning a BAFTA award. This is another injustice among the many that affects artists day to day in the industry. Ungrateful publishers such as 2K often cut ties with the developers, not allowing them to profit from their own hard work. Meanwhile, these same publishers earn revenue by doing absolutely nothing, not even contributing a proper budget. The slave conditions for working with them are abysmal, and everyone should stop supporting 2K. We at Infinite Start will cover how to get the game properly.
Rollerdrome is great, get it free
People often dismiss these sort of controversies, but these are issues that matter a lot for the medium. If the consumer does not react accordingly, it can spell doom to the creatives behind the games people love. It is ironic that people don’t take part or do the effort to understand the issues that plague the industry, yet they bicker and complain when a game is bad or a publisher does something they don’t like.
This double standard of punching down others who complain due to an injustice like this happening are just eating themselves in the end. In times where we need to be united, fighting for a similar cause to stop the decline of the medium people just decide to side with the companies instead, against their own interests.
This incredibly masochistic behavior wouldn’t be an issue if it only affected those who made the choice, but it affects all of us. Not only does it affect us, but it also affects the people who put their heart and soul into making amazing games for us to enjoy. The developers of Rollerdrome are victims of this decaying industry, just pirate the game as they said, perfection is priceless.
