New Tomb Raider Game Headed Towards Potential Launch

New Tomb Raider Game Headed Towards Potential Launch

Loyalists to the Tomb Raider series waiting patiently for the next installment have reason to be thrilled yet again as all indications are that full-scale development of the next game is imminent. The most recent job posting [spotted by Video Gamer] on the board by Crystal Dynamics, the game developer tasked with this much-touted title in production, suggests that the game is far along in its final production phase.

While the official reveal and title are still to be announced, it has long been rumoured that a new Tomb Raider game is in development. This latest news, based on the job listing searching for a Senior Level Designer, brings a welcome insight into the project timescale. The Tomb Raider franchise, a gaming stalwart since its first release in 1996, has a rich variety of eleven core games and numerous spin-offs that cement the legend of its icon, Lara Croft. Her icon status even transcends other franchises, as she makes special appearances in games such as Dead By Daylight and Fortnite.

The individual requirements described in the advertisement clearly show the state of the game. The focus on Unreal Engine proficiency and the request for someone who can function as a lead on “strike teams” as a principal contributor is a very good indication that most of the development is soon to be finished. “Strike teams” are usually put together towards the end of game development to resolve and repair remaining issues and hone the entire experience. In addition, the listing touts a “strong emphasis on puzzle design” within a third-person action-adventure, an integral aspect of the Tomb Raider series that has become both anticipated and beloved by gamers.

According to these hints, a probable release during 2025 or early 2026 seems more and more likely. Yet, information on the game’s story, world, and certain gameplay elements is still scarce. Speculation from external sources, such as rumors of an open-world environment set in India, has been widespread, but these have not been confirmed with official word.

Earlier this year, Crystal Dynamics reorganized and had approximately 17 staff members terminated. Whether these staffing adjustments have played any role in the direction of the development of the new Tomb Raider game has not been explained.

While the gaming universe holds its breath for official word, rumors are rampant for a potential announcement at future industry events such as Summer Game Fest 2025. The job posting still serves as an encouraging sign that Lara Croft’s next journey still moves closer to being nearer its eventual launch, to deliver the mix of exploration, action, and intricate puzzles that have been the signature of the Tomb Raider legacy for decades.
