Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

Naughty Dog’s Upcoming Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet to offer “the deepest gameplay” the studio has ever done

According to Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann, their upcoming game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is going to have “the deepest gameplay” for any title the studio has made so far, which indicates we might be looking at an overall great game in the form of Intergalactic when it arrives, as great gameplay is what all great games are made of.

In an interview with Last Stand Media (via PC Gamer) Druckmann said that he’s “very, very excited” for Intergalactic and that it contains “the deepest gameplay we’ve ever done.” Though he didn’t really get any more specific beyond that, he stated that “I can’t wait to show it off”, which certainly indicates his enthusiasm regarding the gameplay in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

There are pretty sparse amount of release material available as of yet for Intergalactic and the game’s official reveal trailer shows the main character with a red sword but cuts out just before the combat was about to begin. So there’s almost nothing to judge Druckmann’s statements on the game right now, however they also indicate the combat mechanics to have a lot of depth and versatility which would be pretty great.

Naughty Dog is known for crafting strong narrative driven experiences where storytelling and character interactions take the center stage of the games, although they offer pretty engaging and immersive gameplay experiences too, for that matter. But if the studio manages to merge stellar gameplay mechanics with a compelling narrative, it has the potential to be a legitimate candidate for Game of the Year when it comes out.

In the same interview, Druckmann also commented on some of the current controversy around Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, particularly the misogynistic and racist comments directed at Tati Gabrielle, who plays the protagonist in the game.

“I don’t know if there’s much I could add to that conversation, to be honest,” Druckmann stated. “There’s stuff happening with media right now that you just have to ignore for the most part, just stick to your guns, and do what you believe in. And I feel like that’s how I want artists to carry themselves.”

Intergalactic has been in development for over four years which makes the upcoming game one of the most ambitious titles from Naughty Dog.
