Fans think Marathon is done for. After all the controversy surrounding the PC extraction shooter, the blatant art theft, and plenty of terrible decisions made by Bungie, it is a possibility. Nobody wanted this game, just like Concord, and it has all the chances of becoming Concord 2, if this were to happen, then Sony is also in big trouble. Live service games seem to be vanishing from earth, and only a few remain, not to mention that people get increasingly tired of them. When you have many time sinks, you will always pick the familiar one. We at Infinite Start will cover this issue.
Fans think Marathon is done
This conviction from the Marathon fanbase arises when they noticed that Sony will be cutting the whole marketing for the game. Believe it or not, this can be a significant move that determines the success of how the game will do, as visibility is important to actually sell things. What this means is that the game is on life support, and Marathon as an IP will probably never come back after a huge blunder.
It took decades for a new game in the Marathon series to be made, only to be a live service title that nobody wanted. People want a quality single player experience with optional multiplayer capabilities, its very easy to understand. We know that companies often just seek to boost their profits to the maximum, but such thing cannot be maintained for so long. The game is currently in closed Alpha, people are reporting general dissatisfaction with it, this project is doomed to fail.
If Bungie is smart, they will use this opportunity to cleanse their name, but we can’t really be sure about how things will go. We can only hope that someday, this glorious series can come back as a proper video game rather than a pyramid scheme of your time.
