Clair Obscur Expedition 33 has been a massive success in the gaming space, truly taking the PC world by storm. People are now wondering “Which are the best character builds?”, there is always some sort of tweaker in every gaming community, someone who always wishes to optimize. While in my opinion, optimizing to the fullest can remove the fun of even the most amazing games, it is undeniable that sometimes its fun to do. Today at Infinite Start, we will bring you a guide on optimal builds for each character. Take into account that this will apply for regular difficulties during Act 1.

Gustave Build

Gustave

Gustave is made to survive, so you really want to invest some points in Vitality and Agility, while leaving the other stats alone. Min-maxing is the key to win in RPG games, by doing this, you ensure you can tap into the better attributes of a given character. Not only is Gustave pretty tanky, but it also does amazing as a support character. Abysseram is easily the best weapon you can get in Act 1, and from there, you are able to steam roll pretty much any enemy that stands in your way.

The reason behind why picking Abysseram is the best option, is because it also boosts Vitality, which would be Gustave’s specialty. Along with that, the weapon equipped can also boost defenses, making an already tanky menace into a true paladin that carries the team. For Skills, Pictos and Luminas, you are trying to get abilities that support your party, along with skills that improve Gustave’s tankiness overall. Marking Shot and Powerful are essential in every successful build, while Recovery and From Fire will keep him alive. Marking Shots and Burning Shots are excellent for support.

Lune Build

Lune

Lune is pretty much similar to Gustave in stat distribution, you really want to start funneling points into Vitality and Agility. This is true from Act 2 to 3, however, Act 1 has a little twist. Lune’s Best weapon, Trebuchim, scales with Vitality and Luck, making it imperative to dump points on those stats instead. Once Act 1 is finished, you want to pivot to maxing the same stats as Gustave, since her definitive weapons scale with them. During Act 2, get Kralim, and then you will be basically set for the rest of the acts.

Lune is a massive damage dealer, so you need to skill up accordingly. Mayhem is a key spell for Act 2 and 3, but near the beginning, you want to make sure Lune survives. Healing Light is an amazing skill one must have during Act 1, since losing Lune in battle can hurt a lot. SOS Shell is a must have Pictos on her, and it is clear that she mainly exists to replace Gustave in case something happens to him.

While it is possible to play her as a support, similar to Gustave, she is not suited for doing so for too long. Lune is clearly built as a DPS character first and foremost.

Maelle Build

Maelle

Maelle is your main attacker in Expedition 33, making her one of the most valuable pieces in a team. Her damage output is huge, so you will start during Act 1 dumping your points on Might and Luck, with a focus on Luck. Brulerum is the best weapon you can get during Act 1, and it scales with Luck and Agility, Agility will be the key stat that will need increasing during Act 2 and 3. For Act 2, swapping to Medalum will be your best bet, this one will scale with Defence, which is the next stat you need to dump into instead of Luck at the start of Act 2 onwards.

For act 3, more of the same applies, and your best weapon is Clierum, which also scales with Defence, but this time Agility is the main focus. This is the only character you might want to dump all your points into Agility, until it reaches 99 Agility, crazy speedy if you ask me. As for her skills, Pictos and Luminas, you really just wanna focus on pure offensive capabilities. With enough trickery and planning, Swift Stride and Percee can make your enemies explode into bits with around 9999 damage. This is quite a reference to the broken combos that used to happen in Final Fantasy when it was a proper RPG, good thing Clair Obscur is a good replacement.

Attack Lifesteal is critical to have as your Pictos, since you wanna ensure that Maelle just survives and drains her opponents dry. Gustave is an essential party member thanks to the support utility it brings, keep him at her side always when you can.

Sciel Build

Sciel

Sciel is yet another main DPS primary. I’m starting to notice a trend that all the ladies of this game are in fact huge damage dealers, neat. Before anyone says anything against this, I would like to remind you that plenty of JRPGs back in the day did the same too. Regardless, the versatility of this game shines when taking into account this characters can play multiple roles. Whoever, Sciel is clearly another DPS character like Maelle, but with a twist.

For her weapons from Act 1 to 3, Scieleson, Rangeson and Tisseron should be used in that order. You will start with scaling Agility and Luck, pretty much like what you did with Maelle, but just during early game. After that, you want to pivot into doing Agility and Defense, but with a huge focus on Agility, after all you are also a damage dealer like most of the party.

Her best skills during early are damage dealing ones like, Twilight Slash, Phantom Blade, and Sealed Fate, with these, you can ensure that your enemies are blown to smithereens with massive damage after marking your enemies with Marking Card. After that, for the rest of the game you will pivot into more damage dealing. Culminating with Final Path and Twilight Dance. As for Pictos and Luminas, focus on those who give her speed and critical rate augmentations, such as Breaker.

Monoco Build

Monoco

Monoco comes into the game quite late really, so you won’t be doing much with him, just focus all your points on Agility, Agility is busted in this game since it allows you to attack and stack turns quicker in your favor. Being a weird turn based RPG, seems to cause some stats becoming broken, we can see that every character eventually maxes Agility at 99. This is not unnatural however, as RPGs tend to be quite the beasts to balance. Nusaro and Ballaro are the best weapons for Monoco, so use them wisely. Monoco really wastes AP, so you want to ensure that you equip Pictos and Luminas like Energizing turn on him.

If you run out of AP with Monoco,it can spell disaster for the battlefield, and you will need to improvise some tactics quick before being wiped out. Always make sure he remains stacked. Benisseur Mortar is his best damaging skill, never stop using it.

Verso Build

Verso

Verso is yet another late addition to the party. And like every single character in this game, you just want to dump all into Agility, with the twist that his best weapons also scale with Luck. Gaulteram and Chevalam are the best weapons in both Act 2 and Act 3 that he can get, and he truly becomes a menace. You want to focus on Critical Rate with this character, as you will be dealing massive amounts of damage if you do. Verso also marks his opponents, allowing the party to exploit weak points and causing big damage with explosions.

You always want to ensure that Defiant Strike is a part of your skill set as it will truly define Act 2 and how it goes for you. Ascending Assault is key to finishing the game, and honestly, once you have that skill you don’t even need to care about the rest of the build. This character is just an Ascending Assault bot, you just spam spam spam until even the final boss is dead. This skill is broken, since it becomes even more powerful each time you use it. If you really want some Pictos and Luminas, just go with First Strike and Dodger to see the world burn.

These were the best character builds

If you truly find these useful, or you just want to recommend your own personal builds, please let us know in the comment section. Keep into account that these builds are fit for a regular gameplay, however, they can be tweaked to fit higher difficulty. Remember that discovering a game by yourself is part of the fun, think, and then play.
