Developed by Combat Cat Studio, a small team based in China, the tactical hero shooter Wild Assault has now entered early access on the popular PC gaming platform, Steam. This unique offering in the crowded hero shooter genre distinguishes itself with large-scale 20 versus 20 player-versus-player matches featuring a cast of anthropomorphic characters known as Valiants.
Built using the powerful Unreal Engine 5, Wild Assault has already undergone several public tests throughout 2024, garnering what is reported as positive feedback from the community. The game was also showcased during the Steam Next Fest in October of last year, further building anticipation for its early access release.
Wild Assault presents a different scale compared to many tactical shooters, emphasizing larger team sizes and expansive maps that include both indoor and outdoor environments. Players will have access to ten distinct Valiants and a pool of thirty weapons at this early stage. The game currently features two different game modes across three available maps, providing a foundation for its tactical gameplay.
Since its early access launch on April 11th, Wild Assault has reportedly seen a positive reception, achieving a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam based on over 930 user reviews at the time of the article’s writing. Notably, popular streamers have also begun playing the game, contributing to its visibility within the gaming community.
Combat Cat Studio has indicated that Wild Assault is expected to remain in early access for approximately 12 to 18 months. During that time, the developers aim to drop updates every quarter, working based on community feedback and technical assessments to make the game even better. While an official release date for the full version has not yet been announced, the studio is seeking for a launch between the second and third quarters of 2026. Players who opt for early access will find that the current pricing is set lower than the anticipated price of the final release. The base game is available for $14.99, with a temporary discount bringing it to $13.49. A “Supporter Edition” bundle is also offered, including exclusive in-game content. All basic Valiants and weapons will be unlockable for free within the game and will remain permanently accessible to players.
