Escape from Tarkov Dev Dashes Console Port Hopes As Hopes Grow for 1.0 Launch

Battlestate Games Chief Operating Officer Nikita Buyanov has appeared to put the kibosh on expectations of a console port of the notoriously demanding extraction shooter, Escape from Tarkov. During a recent Tarkov TV stream, Buyanov answered a fan question regarding a possible console release with a sarcastic comment, implying that it will be done “someday, but before that, we will release on [the] Game Boy.” That’s a pretty strong implication that a console release is not being planned for the near future.

Buyanov’s comment comes after a period of time in which hype for the 1.0 launch of Escape from Tarkov, which has been in beta for virtually eight years, is growing. A few fans had anticipated that the complete release would open the door to a console port. However, Buyanov’s comment shows that the team is still committed to the PC platform.

This is not the first time that speculation has occurred about a console port. One of the past developers from Battlestate, in an interview in 2020, stated that a console release was possible but only after the release of the game on Steam. Up to this day, Escape from Tarkov remains unreleased on Valve’s store, and Buyanov once indicated that this is something which will not occur until the release of the 1.0 version.

Although it appears a distant fantasy for the game to break out to consoles as Escape from Tarkov, Battlestate Games’ roadmap shows that the 1.0 version is drawing very near. The roadmap presents plans for the 0.16.9.0 patch in August 2025 and the complete 1.0 release in the fourth quarter of the same year. For now, console gamers looking to experience the realistic and immersive gameplay of Escape from Tarkov will just have to keep waiting, as the developers prioritize the much-awaited full release on PC.
