DOOM is perhaps one of the most important games of a generation. It is the game that made the FPS genre reach into the mainstream. PC gamers were proud to have this title, compared to console gamers who were busy with sub optimal ports of it. Now the console wars are over, everything has the same or similar specifications to a PC. With the advent of cross compatibility and ports, there’s really no reason to own a console unless you don’t like to have a PC. Consoles bring ease of use, when back in the day, they were a whole different world. We at Infinite Start will discuss this peculiar way to play DOOM.
DOOM coming in box shape
Limited Run Games has issues, a ton of them, but when they do something funny, its neat to recognize it. This, in my opinion, overpriced collection of retro DOOM is jam packed with a lot of goodies. From Cassettes with the OST, to trading cards, to even the ability to play the game directly on the box it comes from. The memes of DOOM running in everything are quite accurate, and while this might not be the rarest gadget to run the game in, it certainly is peculiar.
People have managed to run the game in Excel out of all things. As long as it has a display with raster output, it seems that people are able to cook the most outlandish workarounds to make the game work. The saying of don’t let your dreams be memes has been taking to an extreme, we still wonder what’s the next gadget that will run DOOM.
In case you are aware of all the bad practices Limited Run Games commits with their releases, and wish to fire up this classic, there’s still ways. If you own your original media, just make a backup, or ask a friend to get one for you.
