Breath of Fire IV has been preserved by GOG. It’s been 25 years since one of the greatest JRPGs came out in PS1. It’s gorgeous visuals have surprised everyone in the year 2000, and they still look beautiful even today. Capcom used to release PC ports of their games, so it makes sense that the version you are playing is actually based on that. Many PC ports by Capcom also had severe issues, but GOG does their best to ensure those issues are patched out. The price is also extremely cheap, and whatever you grab on GOG is something you own. We at Infinite Start will cover this comeback.
Breath of Fire IV came back
The GOG preservation project is doing amazing. Various titles on the list are starting to come out, and people are still voting for them. Many desire titles such as Digimon World 1, to finally be ported to PC and preserved. It was obvious that Capcom would actually bring this one, since the PC port work has already been done before and needed some minor adjustments. However, we still don’t know the fate of the Digimon World 1 port for example, the only PC port it has is a Korean version that barely works.
We can hope that GOG gets in contact with the person behind that one, because preserving Digimon World 1 would be a bigger win that Breath of Fire IV. In reality, all games need to be preserved no matter what, movies have been lost to time, games can be lost to time too. What GOG is doing is amazing for all gamers out there, and we are truly thankful for the decision to bring these games back from the grave.
The Breath of Fire series is quite dislodged, so you can start playing the series with Breath of Fire IV if you so desire.
