Age of War has been open sourced and re-released on Steam for free. You can now immerse yourself into the classic Flash title that captured the heart of many. Flash games were an important part of the indie scene for a long time. There’s multiple ways to access the possibility to play Flash games, including an emulator that is pretty hefty due to all games being in it. Thanks to the community, a lot of titles have been saved, including Age of War. Age of War was first released on October 31st of 2007, a very nostalgic period for those who had the opportunity to experience the internet in its most interesting times. Playing Flash games was one of the most popular things many netizens did back then. The game features 5 ages that players have to advance through. Each age comes with a different special attack, units and turrets. The goal of the game is to protect your own base and destroy the enemy.
This game is a very interesting take in an RTS, or at least that’s what some people call it, as you have this particular horizontal view of everything. Despite it only being 5 ages long, do not be fooled thinking that this game is short, you gotta put effort into trying to beat all levels. Some Flash games happened to be even harder than the most serious of PC games.
This is because Flash was one of the first havens for indie developers to create their own things, and the community thrived on being creative. Not having any limits imposed, aside from the Flash engine, allowed people to make even the most wild projects, it truly was a good era.
