Split Fiction

Split Fiction sold 1 million units in a mere 48 hour span

Split Fiction manages to accrue lots of success in the span of 48 hours. This new “indie” game is surprisingly published by EA, one of the greediest houses in the gaming market. Are we actually seeing an EA comeback after all the blunders they have done in the past? After many years of just slop live service games and other nefarious tactics made to drain money out of players, EA publishes a real video game. Is this the end of the gaming world as we know it? Are we finally seeing the world heal? These and more questions are things that we at Infinite Start will answer.

Split Fiction, Joint Success

A million copies for what’s technically an indie game in just 48 hours is no joke. We have to take into account, however, that Hazelight Studios has actually published more games in the same vein under EA Game too. This trend of Split Screen Co-Op seems to be something big studios are trying to capitalize on. Once you know these facts, then it does not feel that surprising, the only way to know if EA is finally becoming good is other factors.

We still haven’t seen EA Games dropping their online games, there wasn’t any shift on greedy monetization either. Split Fiction might be a success, but that’s thanks to the studio behind it, not EA Games. Nothing will heal the company unless a massive restructuring process happens and most of the people on top are kicked out. There is no hope for gaming if things keep going as they do, but we can at least rest assured that the only successful games here are the good ones.

If you have to rely on predatory monetization mechanics that affect the psychological well being of people, then that’s no more than a terrible game. Split Fiction is an interesting take in the split screen cooperative scene, and it shall be embraced.
