PC version of highly anticipated Rise of the Ronin is plagued with horrid optimization, first impressions suggest. Pre-release leaks have revealed the game has a need for extremely high-performance PCs to run typically, which makes players wonder about the overall quality.

Rise of the Ronin PC Is Poorly Optimized

Initially released on PlayStation 5 in March of 2024, Rise of the Ronin was largely well received for its world and good RPG action. While it didn’t have universally positive reviews, presentation and combat mechanics were the high points. Despite all the fanfare, the game was released on PC in January of 2025, with hopes of delivering fans possibly a more optimized experience. Sadly, recent rumor has it that subpar optimization will short the experience.

Rise of the Ronin requires an overpowered PC build to even be able to run, first impressions state, courtesy of PushSquare. It’s astonishing considering the PS5 version, which was already being panned for its mildly outdated-looking visuals. Yes, there might be a patch that improves performance released on day one, but it’s concerning at this stage.

Team Ninja’s History of PC Port Struggles

This is not the first such complaint about PC optimization on Team Ninja. Earlier in March 2023, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty was review-bombed on Steam for horrific performance issues even though it launched on all platforms. Both Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Rise of the Ronin make use of Team Ninja’s Katana Engine, so concerns that the same tech issue is plaguing the latest port are valid.

A Crazy Year for Team Ninja

Aside from all these possible missteps, Team Ninja has a hectic 2025 to anticipate. The studio already had the release of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, and later on, they have the PC version of Rise of the Ronin coming up. Then the shocking announcement of Ninja Gaiden 4 and its subsequent release half way through the year. Meanwhile, the studio itself is also busy laboring on Venus Vacation Prism: Dead or Alive Xtreme, a dating simulation—a departure from its usual action-oriented works.

As fans await its upcoming PC release of Rise of the Ronin, fans have their fingers crossed that Team Ninja will be able to release optimization patches needed to help curb these early performance issues.
