Naughty Dog, the renowned developer of hit franchises Uncharted and The Last of Us, is reportedly developing a new PlayStation 5 game beyond their ambitious current project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. This, according to a new report by entertainment insider DanielRPK, indicates that the studio is developing multiple big titles.
While Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, a science fiction action-adventure title with an ’80s aesthetic, has been announced and is causing quite a stir, this second, yet-to-be-announced game remains something of a secret. As DanielRPK’s Patreon blog post suggests, this as-yet untitled game is being developed by Shaun Escayg, director of both Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Marvel’s Avengers. Escayg’s return to Naughty Dog after a brief detour at Crystal Dynamics also spurs rumors as to the nature of this project.
The report states that this enigmatic game was in production for a span of almost three years. With Escayg’s history, it’s generally believed that it would be a new Uncharted title, perhaps exploring different characters or narratives. A completely new IP is not impossible, though.
Naughty Dog has already teased that it has “more than one ambitious single-player game” in development for the PS5. With Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet not arriving until at least 2027, this second project might be even more distant.
Though there are few hard facts, the likelihood of another significant Naughty Dog title is certainly good news for PlayStation enthusiasts. The studio’s record of delivering quality, story-driven experiences puts any new release on a high pedestal. As always with unsubstantiated rumors, that report should meet some healthy skepticism. That all said, the puzzle pieces appear to fit, indicating the possibility of a dramatic addition to the impressive body of work from Naughty Dog. Gamers wait for a word from the studio, with all knowing the title’s release would be a noteworthy one.
