There is a new theory going around that Krakoa, the legendary living island of the X-Men comics, might be the next playable map in Marvel Rivals. Fans have been observing possible teases within the Galacta’s Cosmic Adventure event, which started on March 7 and will last until April 11.
Krakoa Hiding in Plain Sight?
Now, Marvel Rivals has well over a dozen maps, but keen fans are convinced that the game already hinted at Krakoa as the future map.
Galacta’s Cosmic Adventure is structured like a board game, with the players rolling the dice to travel through six regions that are maps of the modern world. Some have also pointed out, however, that there is a seventh space in the middle of the board with suspended rock masses and one of them hidden in shadow and the tag of a question mark. There is a countdown timer there that has created a lot of speculation regarding Krakoa to be revealed at last when the clock runs out.
Clues Implying Arrival of Krakoa
There are a few in-game easter eggs corroborating the Krakoa theory:
A Spray Reward With Cerebro:
One of the event rewards is a spray named Damaged Cerebro, which shows Professor Xavier’s iconic headset in a damaged form—a design credited to Krakoa in the X-Men Comics.
Character Dialogue References:
Some of the characters such as Doctor Doom, Wolverine, Scarlet Witch, and Magneto have uttered the word Krakoa in voice lines. Doctor Doom, for one, said they had gone to a “gala” which the fans interpret as Hellfire Gala, an important X-Men event held on Krakoa.
The Cryptic Countdown Timer:
There is also a hidden panel on the board in the event room that holds a secret map and a countdown timer, so something significant is going to be revealed soon.
What This Means for Marvel Rivals
If Marvel Rivals were to add Krakoa, it would be the first X-Men-themed map in the game, and could potentially bring new gameplay features that take advantage of the island’s living aspect. With the Galacta’s Cosmic Adventure event ongoing until April 11, fans are expecting that if the countdown does indeed introduce the arrival of Krakoa, and how.
