Discord’s Friend List will now pop up on the games you play

Discord is currently in its best moments ever when it comes to competition on chat applications for PC. Skype has ceased to be due to Microsoft planning on pulling the plug on it. With this sort of news, comes a ton of complications too, Discord being unmatched in power and market share will cause for them to become greedy. There’s even plans in the horizon for the company behind the popular app to become publicly traded. When companies decide to go that route, users of a service must know that the service will get terrible. We at Infinite Start will discuss this new change added by Discord.

Discord knows your hobbies

Yes, it is important for users of Discord to understand that your data isn’t particularly safe. Unfortunately, Discord is being widely used by many, so migrating en masse to more privacy centered alternatives like Matrix is quite hard to force. Now Discord has decided that it would be cool to add an overlay to all of the games you play, especially multiplayer ones. This can be a handy feature for those who wish to jump into some quick Fortnite matches. However, reasonable people will argue that this is yet another breach in privacy.

Discord has constantly updated their Terms of Service, including lots of terrible changes for the end user. The removal of video and voice protection from archival is the most egregious one, they can now just use all of that information uploaded to the app to train their own “AI” models. This is basically illegal, but since they are on its way to becoming a monopoly, they do not care. Money is the primary motivator of a company that will become publicly traded, they itch for that greedy sensation of swimming in tons of black money made by trafficking your personal data.

Matrix is an alternative that might be a bit hard to use, but it should be the way forward if you care about your online security.
