In a recent interview with Genki, Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Creative Director Jonathan Dumont has revealed that the upcoming Open World title’s main story will take 30 to 40 hours to complete. And for players who want to finish every single side quest and other bonus activities in the game, should expect to spend upwards of 80 hours in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. He also stated that Ubisoft will possibly add new game modes alongside other features according to player feedback, so yes Assassin’s Creed Shadows has even more room for expansion.
Of course, for a game with as massive scale and scope such as Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which is easily the most ambitious entry in the longrunning series, around 100 hours of total playtime is what’s to be expected. The sumptuous playtime also makes perfect sense for the game’s colossal Open World as it will allow the developers to utilize the World to it’s full potential.
It’s also important to remember that the last few titles in the series such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey had easily offered 100 plus hours of total playtime, which aligns perfectly with their massive Open Worlds. But interestingly, Assassin’s Creed Shadows looks to be on par with the scope of Assassin’s Creed Origins, which was a bit leaner than both Odyssey and Valhalla and took around 30 hours to finish the main story and over 85 hours to complete all side contents.
Dumont also provided new details about some of the gameplay mechanics of Assassin’s Creed Shadows including the light and shadow based stealth system, going prone, the grappling hook, spy network system, expanded and customizable hideout, minigames, recruitment systems and more. The interview clearly suggests that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be packed to the brim in terms of gameplay features and other activities.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to arrive on March 20 for Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the PC platform. You can pre-order the game’s Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions right now on Steam.
