One of the most hotly anticipated titles of the year, the recently released Assassin’s Creed Shadows has just reached 3 million players since launch as Ubisoft has officially announced on X/ Twitter. The publisher also shared two more sales milestones which Assassin’s Creed Shadows has hit so far including the 2nd highest Day 1 sales revenue in the entire Assassin’s Creed franchise history, the biggest Ubisoft Day 1 ever on PlayStation Digital Store and the game already clocking in over 40 million hours of playtime.

It has only been a week since Assassin’s Creed Shadows came out and Ubisoft earlier reported the game engaging 2 million players just after 2 days of release which already surpassed the launch numbers of both Origins and Odyssey. And although the publisher is yet to provide any official sales figures for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, it’s pretty clear by now that the Open World title is doing really well in terms of financial revenues and garnering critical success.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows also became the most played game in the history of the franchise on Steam this weekend with 64,825 peak concurrent players, which goes to show that it might just be the hit Ubisoft really needs after a number of major AAA flops such as Star Wars: Outlaws and several other disappointments which have put a dent on Ubisoft’s reputation as one of the major players in the industry.

Assassin's Creed Shadows

So there’s indeed a lot riding on Assassin’s Creed Shadows and the fact that it came out on so many systems (including the Steam Deck) along with being surprisingly scalable which makes it much easier to run on a wide range of hardware that’s currently available clearly points out that Ubisoft really wants as many gamers as possible to play Shadows.

However assuming the budget of Assassin’s Creed Shadows which is likely to be astronomically high and easily upwards of many hundreds of millions of dollars, it’s going to need a whole lot more players and sold units to arrive at a point of breaking even, let alone actually making a profit for Ubisoft. But so far, Shadows certainly seems promising enough in terms of both critical reception and commercial revenues.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows came out on March 20 for Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the PC platform.
