The System Shock series is a classic that many PC gamers have experienced in the past. Now, its the 25th Anniversary of System Shock 2, and it’s time for it to receive some remastering. This series is very relevant these days thanks to the topics it tries to cover. So honoring it with a remaster that respects the original game is a must. Remakes often break the original’s idea down and replaces them with something more appealing to people who don’t even know the franchise. This is not the case for System Shock 2’s Remaster coming at an unspecified date. We at Infinite Start will cover this new development.
Happy 25th System Shock 2
Games like Deus Ex gave us plenty of insight in some sci-fi related topics, mainly those associated with dystopic scenarios. The System Shock series also does the same, being another FPS RPG hybrid that captured the attention of many gamers. The story of the game sets us in 2114 and as you awake from cryogenic sleep on the Von Braun an FTL ship, you are unable to remember who or where you are. Hybrid mutants and deadly robots roam the halls while the cries from the remaining crew reverberate through the cold hull of the ship. SHODAN, is a rogue AI bent on the destruction of mankind that has taken over and it’s up to you to stop her.
System Shock 2 is pretty much a man versus machine situation. A story about how the unrelenting advancement of tech can bring doom towards people. If technology advancements aren’t kept in check, a similar future to that of the game might be possible. After the System Shock series, came the popular BioShock, serving as a spiritual successor. BioShock is also a dystopia but more focused on the dangers of science rapidly moving forward. Both franchises basically speak about trying to find a balance in how we use and advance tech forward, for our benefit.
