Monster Train 2 Revealed

Monster Train 2 Revealed, Playable Demo Released

Devolver Digital has revealed Monster Train 2, the follow-up to the award-winning roguelike deck-builder game. Shiny Shoe is developing the game, with the game coming out in 2025 for PC and consoles, a playable demo of which has already been uploaded on Steam for PC players.

A Sequel to a Critical Hit

The first Monster Train, released in May 2020, was an instant success with its deep deck-building and deep strategic gameplay. The game initially released on PC and was cross-platformed to Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and PlayStation 5, with the game receiving praise on all platforms. With an average rating of 83 on OpenCritic and 86% reviewer endorsement, Monster Train was soon a hit among roguelike and deck-building enthusiasts.

And Devolver Digital’s Big Fan imprint has just announced that Monster Train 2 is indeed in the works, full release later this year, 2025. Ditching the staged release strategy of the original game, released in installments on the various platforms, the sequel will be arriving all at once on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

New Gameplay Features and Improvements

Monster Train 2 will expand on its deck-building foundation with two or more of the following features:

  • Five new clans to play – Each with unique abilities and flair.
  • New Room Cards – Powerful boons for specific train floors.
  • More pieces of equipment – Offering greater customizability and strategic depth.
  • More unit abilities – With strategic timing to be most effective.

Along with that, Monster Train 2 will also feature an Endless Mode, leaderboards, run mutators, and other customization options for replayability.

A First Look at the Sequel

Though no price announcement has been made, the game will probably be $24.99, just like its original. Monster Train 2 players can now experiment with a Steam demo of the new factions, mechanics, and gameplay improvements it will offer. With more to come in the way of content and refinement, Monster Train 2 will be an absolute must-play for deck-builders.
