AfterQuest is one of the latest and upcoming RPGs on the Indie space. This new game is being developed by someone with no previous experience in game development. For being new to the scene, this one actually looks pretty neat. A demo will be dropping soon, according to the developer of the game, Ember Arcade. We at Infinite Start will cover this promising RPG title with what we know so far.

A spark of hope

Selling a company to try your luck at making games is quite an adventurous choice to make. The Indie scene is teeming with new and exciting games, but it is also filled to the brim with games that go unnoticed. AfterQuest is a new RPG title focusing on different scenarios and it looks to have massive replay value. However, the title is built on Unity, an engine that is severely flawed when it comes to resource consumption and other issues.

Unity is also a terrible choice, based on what they have tried to do to developers in the past. Trying to take royalty for all works produced on the engine, and side loading malware into games is truly scummy. People should avoid Unity as much as they can, but unfortunately not everyone has the luxury to do so. AfterQuest might be optimized for older systems, and that can hamper its sales.

With risks come responsibilities to take. It is important to weight the pros and cons of taking such a decision to plunge into a highly competitive place like the Indie scene. One can risk being lost in the sea of games, however, AfterQuest seems like it could be the right game in the right wave. As people keep spamming Rougelikes to death, perhaps RPGs such as this have a way to triumph by being unique. One can only hope that AfterQuest is a successful game and that Ember Arcade has made the right choice to shift.
