The upcoming Pokemon Presents event scheduled for February 27 is unlikely to feature any announcements regarding Pokemon titles for the rumored Switch 2 console. While leaks suggest that Nintendo is preparing to unveil a new, more powerful version of the Switch, Pokemon games are expected to remain focused on the original console for the time being.

Nintendo has hinted at the existence of a Switch 2, confirming its development and backward compatibility with the current Switch models and Nintendo accounts. However, concrete details beyond these assurances remain speculative and primarily sourced from leaks. Reports indicate that the Switch 2 could be a larger, upgraded iteration of its predecessor, potentially catering to enhanced gaming experiences.

Fans anticipating news about Pokemon games specifically designed for the Switch 2 may find themselves disappointed. According to insider Jeff Grubb, the upcoming Pokemon Presents event will center on titles developed for the original Switch, all of which will reportedly function on the Switch 2 due to its backward compatibility feature.

The presentation is expected to feature updates on ongoing Pokemon games like Pokemon GO and Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket, alongside details on Pokemon Legends: Z-A. This new installment is slated for release on the original Switch and has teased a return to Lumiose City, Mega Evolutions, and familiar Pokemon from previous series entries.

Despite speculation about another mainline Pokemon game possibly launching this year—potentially remakes of Pokemon Black and White or another pair of Let’s Go games—these titles are rumored to target the original Switch platform, not the Switch 2.

Historically, the Pokemon franchise has prioritized releasing games on consoles with established user bases, echoing decisions like launching Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 on the original DS rather than the newer 3DS. If this pattern holds, it suggests that the initial major Pokemon games for the Switch 2 could arrive with the next generation, likely the Generation 10 titles.

For definitive answers, fans will have to await the Pokemon Presents event on February 27, where Nintendo and The Pokemon Company will clarify their plans for upcoming titles and their platform exclusivity. Until then, expectations for Switch 2-related announcements should be tempered, focusing instead on updates for current-generation hardware.
